Evolution of Sabbath Pt 3.0

Fulfillment

The 7th day of Creation was the first instance where the Creator God sets a boundary for Creation itself. Not just matter and energy, but time was created. There is only so much matter, so much energy, and there is truly only so much TIME.

At some point, the “common” stops. And the Holy begins.

In scripture we see this in several shadows, but clearly the one most anticipated by scripture itself is the Millennial Reign of Messiah.

The literal, physical rulership means:

  • Peace, total elimination of war. No fighting for safety.
  • Supply, total needs are met
  • Wholeness, total healing of soul

and so much more. With this reality there is a clear change in our role. We aren’t doing anything for ourselves. There is a rest to almost everything we currently experience. Is as if all our experience wont correlate because we have NEVER experienced life with true rest.

Perhaps it is even reasonable to say it takes a new mind and a new body to even experience Rest. It is actually foreign, because part of the curse for mankind was struggle.

Sabbath is where you have no LABOR. Your work is no longer a valid part of the time period. It has no place, nowhere to exist.

Gen 2:1-3

Gen 2:1 NKJV – Thus the heavens and the earth, and all the host of them, were finished.
Gen 2:2 NKJV – And on the seventh day God ended His work which He had done, and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had done.
Gen 2:3 NKJV – Then God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it, because in it He rested from all His work which God had created and made.

These statements connect the previous verses and complete them. It’s important for us to remember verses and chapters don’t exist in the original manuscripts. It’s a simple reference technique, and makes it convenient for us.

This is defining the reality that the work of creation itself, is done. In one real sense, this could very directly mean that EVERYTHING is done. It is just now working itself out. We are experiencing what was created, and Yahoveh is arranging the things created to fulfill God’s own person. Nothing is going to be created from this point forward, we are working within the context of all that is.

Another piece of this important for us to remember is at the very least Yahweh, as well as any other beings previously existent, are OUTSIDE of creation in a very real sense. Where, how, when etc… aren’t clear, but at the very least God is separate from this creation, made it all, and finished it.

Ive talked in other posts about the seventh day, and there is a LOT to say about this. However in this study Im trying to come to understanding as we go, trying to image what is happening WITHOUT other knowledge or things to come later. SO lets take this element in chronological revealing

This 7th cycleof a “day”, the work is ended. It would be ended therefor by the end of the light on day 6, as this starts the next day. And God ended Gods work on this day, and rested. To rest in this case is the word shavath, meaning rest but not like a nap. Cease, Rest, Sit or Sit Still.

And this day is special to God as God literally blesses this day and sets it apart from the others. We don’t know HOW God did this, perhaps it is inherently blessed by doing something different, but clearly it is God who is initiating the blessing and the setting apart of it.

So not only is the work done, it ceases on Gods end. And that makes this something set apart, holy. It is a blessed day in history, and it relates to the “action” or ceasing or resting from the work of making creation.

Evolution of Sabbath Pt 2.9

Sabbath as Type

Sabbath is more than just an instruction, a command, a sign or a requirement. Each of these pieces is the result of an action, but the concept of Sabbath itself points to something more than itself, and beyond itself.

Sabbath is used as a type describing Salvation. Salvation is itself a transformation of ourselves into something literally set apart.  Sabbath is a constant rehearsal of taking something common and setting it apart (making it holy…)

Sabbath is rest, both Creator God resting, and us aligning ourselves with our God. When God finishes the work, and ends the phase of creation we experience, those of us who come along will be resting from our piece as well.

Sabbath is a type of holiness. It is the essence for being set apart by Grace. There is nothing itself that makes the 7th Day holy. It is by Yahwehs election that it is MADE holy. By repeatedly exercising that Grace, we are agreeing and manifesting the reality the what Yahweh chooses to make holy, IS holy.

There is also the idea of 6 millennia, and 6 is associated with humanity. The 7th millennium can be understood in light of Yahwehs era.. We have seen the best humans can do, it is now the season of the Creator itself.

One thing I see is that so often this is conceived as the literal physical reign on Yeshua on Earth. I do think that is the “7th” cycle of creation. In a very direct way we see this as a rest in that the land and the people are located and defended by the keeper of the covenant. Yet there is every indication that even this is actually bounded.

We see in essence the 7th day  sets the stage for the NEW thing.

Evolution of Sabbath Pt 2.8

Paul commands people to not to let others keep them from obeying commands of Yahweh. All that Yeshua has done is so powerful and generous and profound that we shouldnt let anyone affect our decision to follow Yahwehs commands. These practices find their whole substance in Yeshua.

Col 2:8 NASB – See to it that no one takes you captive through philosophy and empty deception, according to the tradition of men, according to the elementary principles of the world, rather than according to Christ.
Col 2:9 NASB – For in Him all the fullness of Deity dwells in bodily form,
Col 2:10 NASB – and in Him you have been made complete, and He is the head over all rule and authority;
Col 2:11 NASB – and in Him you were also circumcised with a circumcision made without hands, in the removal of the body of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ;
Col 2:12 NASB – having been buried with Him in baptism, in which you were also raised up with Him through faith in the working of God, who raised Him from the dead.
Col 2:13 NASB – When you were dead in your transgressions and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He made you alive together with Him, having forgiven us all our transgressions,
Col 2:14 NASB – having canceled out the certificate of debt consisting of decrees against us, which was hostile to us; and He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross.
Col 2:15 NASB – When He had disarmed the rulers and authorities, He made a public display of them, having triumphed over them through Him.
Col 2:16 NASB – Therefore no one is to act as your judge in regard to food or drink or in respect to a festival or a new moon or a Sabbath day–
Col 2:17 NASB – things which are a mere shadow of what is to come; but the substance belongs to Christ.

The last mention of Sabbath directly now puts Sabbath in context of salvation, and not jsut the initial salvation of being born again, but the eschatological reign of Messiah, and perhaps even the new Jerusalem and the new heavens and new earth after the millennial reign of Messiah.

Hbr 4:9 NASB – So there remains a Sabbath rest for the people of God.
Hbr 4:10 NASB – For the one who has entered His rest has himself also rested from his works, as God did from His.
Hbr 4:11 NASB – Therefore let us be diligent to enter that rest, so that no one will fall, through following the same example of disobedience.
