Gen 1:24-25

Gen 1:24 ESV – And God said, “Let the earth bring forth living creatures according to their kinds–livestock and creeping things and beasts of the earth according to their kinds.” And it was so.
Gen 1:25 ESV – And God made the beasts of the earth according to their kinds and the livestock according to their kinds, and everything that creeps on the ground according to its kind. And God saw that it was good.

This is the first part of the 6th Day.

This is the third actual creation in the Earth itself. The vegetation was the first, and birds are not all water based, they nest on land.

This is everything that makes its life on the surface of the earth, not the waters. Birds make nests on the land, but dominate the air.

This is the basis for the theory of evolution, following this pattern of water to land. This only works if you can prove the following:

  1. The day mentioned here is not literal (and there is a case to be made for that as we don’t have a measurement of time), and is significantly longer than what we experience as a day. It would have to be incredibly longer than the metaphorical “with the Lord a day is like a thousand years” concept. A day would have to be millions of years according to the current theory of Evolution of species.
  2. You would have to prove that species literally change over time into other species, not just literally evolve into more and more sophisticated (or possibly simpler) forms of the same species.

Another interesting point here is there is no blessing to be fruitful and multiply as there was in the air and water life. It is still good, but the blessing isn’t pronounced on these creatures, possibly at all. We see it later in the day, but at this point it isn’t clear.
